Is There a Game? Reflecting on the power of interactive media.

We are used to think of games through a narrative or story reminicence, the one that drives the greatest moments lived by nuanced characters in a compelling development and attractive setting according to the genre or narrative. One crucial point to talk about is how most games are recalled by great endings, for example, RDR2, The Last of Us, Portal, Metal Gear Solid, Halo amongst others, but the value i find in these games isnt because i get to perform a stunt-level car chase onboard an intergalactic ship, or being overpowered against hordes of enemies, instead I find value in games due to all the details, dialogue, gameplay, and narrative that led me to that great ending for the story. What is the difference between the end of a game and its ending? To begin with, i consider the end of a game to be its purpose or idea that went through several transformations and changes to get up to launch after a long development, but generally, the end of a game is for the player to have fun in the world they are chosing to live in through their screens. Whilst a game´s ending is simply a conclussion for a process you followed, the conversations you listened to, and in most cases a final climax that explains the resolution for the characters in the future or just to tie up the entry. Considering this, to write an awesome ending is important, but it is clever to rely on the whole journey rather than in the memory of its conclussion in order to tell a story, specially since endings are just one bit of the gameplay you did in order to get to them, and that is wonderful about games, how everything great about them or that you may like, can be found in the beggining, in the middle, and in the end. Therefore, a game's end is to build itself on fun in order to lead to a final plot element which serves as a milestone for the experience.
